Jazu

RESTAURANT

Jazu is a Japanese restaurant imagined as a space for connection, reflection, and cultural exchange. It is a place where interiors and light foster both stillness and sociality. Set within a corporate building, Jazu transforms the everyday into the extraordinary, drawing deeply from Japanese design philosophy to reframe the boundaries between work, leisure, and ritual.

At its core, the brief was to encourage social interaction within an office environment, and to do so through the language of materiality, form, and light. The result is a fluid, multifunctional interior that shifts from calm daytime lounge to intimate restaurant and bar by night.

Guided by four Japanese principles: Ma (the space between), Shizen (naturalness), Datsuzoku (freedom from routine), and Mizu (fluidity), the space unfolds with quiet intentionality. Circular tables create inclusive moments of gathering, while their placement honours spatial pause and rhythm. Natural woods, stone, and filtered daylight echo the textures of nature, grounding the atmosphere in warmth and tactility.

Lighting plays a central role: ambient, sculptural, and transformative. By day, light filters gently through expansive glass, reflecting the trees beyond. By night, a soft glow redefines the interior, inviting guests into a more sensorial experience and an escape from the habitual.

A dialogue between cultures.
